⚠️ IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE USING
Ending someone's employment is one of the highest-risk things a business can do. Wrongful dismissal claims can cost far more than the notice in this letter.
Minimum ESA standards are NOT the same as common-law "reasonable notice" — courts can award much more.
Terminations connected to human-rights grounds (age, disability, pregnancy, etc.) are illegal.
"For cause" has a very high legal bar in Canada — most performance issues do NOT meet it.
Have this letter reviewed by an employment lawyer in Ontario BEFORE delivering it. This is a self-help template under the Employment Standards Act, 2000, not legal advice.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the undersigned has duly executed this document as of the date first written above.
